Day 14 - Angels Camp, California to Winnemucca, Nevada

Not too many pictures from this day, it was very rainy. Finally cleared up after I crossed the Sierra Nevadas through the Donner Pass into Nevada.

I ended up in a small town in northern part of the state. People say that Reno is the crappy version of Las Vegas, well I found the crappy version of Reno: Winnemucca, Nevada. Old Casinos on every corner, bars all over the place. I walk into one, and immediately meet this old dude named Doug, a silver miner. This guy was nuts, he took me to all the other crazy bars, which were filled with all sorts of other crazy old guys. This place really was the wild west. So I drank all night with Doug and his other silver miner friends. It was getting late and I was curious when the place would close down. I asked the bartender "when is last call in this place?" She replied, "Honey, we don't like those words around here." In Nevada, you can legally stay open all night if you want to. She said they never lock the doors. You can also buy beer, wine, and liquor in any store, 24 hours a day. And in certain counties (including the one I was in) you can also visit a legal brothel. I was informed there were 3 in that very town. This state is absolutely lawless. Very few laws regarding liquor, gambling, and whores. What a place.

Welcome to Nevada

Reno-Sparks

75 mph? So I can go 85, right? Not exactly. I had my cruise set for 85, I'm bookin along for awhile, then I pull into a gas station. 2 minutes later a cop pulls up behind me, gets out, and tells me that he clocked me a few miles back going 85. He politely informs me that in Nevada, even if the speed limit is 75, you're really not supposed to go above 80. Then he gets back in his car and drives away. Nice guy.
